Excerpt:

we will always remember
where we were
where they took us
and where we would be
if we were not where we are

About the Author

Isijola is a Nigerian born, American raised poet and author. Her works often reflect realities of the immigrant experience, self identity, faith, and discovery through a vivid female lens.

When did you write and publish Oracle?

Some of the poems were written over five years ago but the poetry collection was published in March 2019.

What was your inspiration for Oracle?

My inspiration for the poems in Oracle come from living life as a young adult immigrant woman in America. This perspective allows me to see life and people around me through a different lens.

What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

When I’m not writing, I like to hang out with family and friends, scroll on social to see what the world is doing, watch web-series on Youtube and read.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

How it attracts a variety of audience. I’ve read a few pieces from the collection and gotten positive feedback from people I did not expect.

How many books have you written? Which is your favourite?
I have written two poetry collections. My first one is Spoken Silence and the second one is Oracle. My favorite is the most recent one – Oracle

Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?
I’ve gotten written and verbal reviews and its been positive. The most recent one I have is from Instagram – “I just bought and read your book “Spoken Silence,” and I just wanted to tell you it was incredibly beautiful. It is definitely going on my reread list!”

What do you think makes a good story?
There’s a popular quote that goes along this line, “To a writer, everything is material.” Stories are everywhere, it all depends on how you tell it to make it a good story.
