How long have you been writing?
I have been writing since I was a child. Instead of watching television, I would write stories. I also had very vivid dreams. When I would wake up, I would write my dreams down. This helped me to build my stories.
What genres do you focus on?
The funny thing is that I don’t just have one genre that I am attached to. I love science fiction and drama the most though.
What is the hardest part of writing for you?
I find the hardest part of writing to be naming my characters. This is because most of the names that I am use to are Afro-centric, but my books are relatable to everyone so I try to make them as streamline as possible.
When is your next novel due out?
The next one was due in September, but I decided to push is back to the end of October. This gave me time to learn more about marketing in the book industry. As a newbie, this is very important.
Do you write full-time or part-time?
I want to focus on writing full-time but with all of my business interest my focus honestly is more like 50% of the time. For me, that is okay because I get to do all of the things I like to do.
Do you outline or plot your books or do you prefer see where an idea takes you?
A little of both. I am a person who visually sees the book as I write it in my mind’s eye. Then I outline the chapters and key realizations before getting to the meat of my book. I must say that each book is different. Sometimes the story just flows and you go with it.
How do you make your characters so real?
I see and feel each characters essence as I write them. I think it is important to understand major characters otherwise it may be hard to relate to them. I like to make sure to develop and understanding of who the main character are at their core.
