Life Experiences by Dr. Maurice A. Lee

Synopsis: In life, we are faced with many obstacles and trials that often stunt or slow our progression.  It is up to us as individuals to tap into our inner being to search for our purpose in life.  Dr. Maurice A. Lee, a successful, health-care professional takes you on a journey of his life experiences.  Coming from a town where the success stories are few and far in between, Dr. Lee overcame peer pressure, a depressing health ailment, and a defining moment from a suicide attempt to become a prominent figure in his community.  This is a book that will have you feeling inspired and empowered to conquer the unconquerable.
Excerpt: Our dreams are only seeds of potential.  The watering happens when we wake up in order to make the dream live.  There’s no excuse for you.  No man knows it all.  No woman gets it automatically.  Throughout life, there will always be something that you as an individual can learn, but no one can teach you unless you are willing to learn.  If someone is trying to guide you through the everyday process of life, take the information, extrapolate from it what needs to be taken out, continue to plant a seed, water it, care for it, give it the nutrients it requires so that the tree of knowledge can continue to grow.  Love yourself enough to learn from others.  Always position yourself to be able to learn something. – Dr. Maurice A. Lee

Get to know the author:
1.  What inspired you to write “Life Experiences”?
Answer: As I began to sit back and observe the state of our economy and the mindset of our youth, I felt it was time to put a product out that was positive and would speak life so that individuals would be encouraged to tap into their inner self to find their true purpose in life.

Also, it was therapeutic for me because I had never shared most of my experiences with anyone. I thought by sharing my story, it would really inspire people to be the best that they could be.
2.  What sets Life Experiences apart from other books in the same genre?
Answer:  Life Experiences comes from my heart, and it is a book that chronicles various events that many can relate to. In my much-discussed new book, Community: In Life Experiences, I try to make a point of not trying to define a healthy and well-functioning quality of life. The idea isn’t to create a visionary ideal for people to try to live up to. Rather, it’s to encourage a shift in our way of thinking about life and our community, so we can bring about the qualities of an authentic sense of belonging. That, after all, is what life is really about.

My approach sets this book apart from so many other works in the same genre which try to map best practices or enumerate the essential features of a robust life. I understand that creating and sustaining a sense of belonging is fundamentally about the experiences of life and how we deal with those experiences.
3.  How much of “Life Experiences” is realistic?
Answer:  Everything in the book is REAL!  One thing I decided before having this book published was that if I was going to write it, I wanted to be honest and true to myself first.  Once I could be true to myself, then I could be true to the readers.  I wanted to give them my experiences from living that would allow them to see how you can take your experiences and utilize them to find your purpose in life.  I have learned that you are able to touch lives and become relatable when you are honest and true.
4.  If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your book?
Answer:  I wouldn’t change anything about the book. The book is an account of personal events that people are often afraid or ashamed to talk about. Being that I am very transparent with this book, it speaks to so many on different levels evoking thoughts of change for the betterment of our communities. I just wrote what I thought people needed to hear.
5.  Do you have to travel much concerning your book?
Answer:  Yes.  I am requested to speak at a number of events about the book which enables me to go in depth about the book and my experiences.  I love being able to look into the eyes of my readers and draw inspiration from them.  A lot of times, I become motivated from being around people from all walks of life.  That’s the beauty about being in the company of others…we learn from each other and take away pearls of wisdom that we can share to others, thus continuing kingdom building.
6.  As an author, what is your writing process?  How long did it take you to start and finish Life Experiences?
Answer:  First, I listen for the voice that is silent. From there, I draw on inspiration from within to deliver a message that is otherwise not being heard abroad. It took six months to finish Life Experiences.
7.  What is the overall message that you want readers to grasp?
I want my readers to walk away knowing that their “life experiences” are not designed to take them under, but are placed before them to make them stronger.  I want my readers to feel inspired and empowered to conquer the unconquerable!
