Leslie Crawford to talks about the woman behind the Forbidden Fruit series

Here’s the situation… You’re a new author with a penchant for fitness and you’re looking to make a name for yourself. Taking your love for reading and parlaying that into a budding writing career, you decide to pen a novel about the lengths one would go to for love. Seeing that the storyline keeps flowing well past the end of the book, what was once a stand=alone title, has now become a trilogy.

AAMBC _ Leslie Crawford CoverThe Situation Room with Michelle Cuttino catches up with Leslie Crawford to talk about the woman behind the Forbidden Fruit series.

Michelle: If you had to describe yourself to someone, what would you say?

Leslie: Leslie is a loving woman that constantly puts others needs before her own, but she can also be a stern person.  She is a hard-worker and when she wants something she goes after it.

Michelle: When did you know you wanted to be an author?

Leslie: I always liked to read, but one day I asked myself if I had to write a book would I be able to.  I took the chance and stepped out there and wrote my first novel. I started writing as a joke to someone and from that joke I created a story in my head which I put on paper.

Michelle: Your debut novel is Forbidden Fruit. Give us a quick summary of what the book is about?

Leslie: Forbidden Fruit is about Monique Jackson, a teenager who has everything any teenager could want but she longs for more.  She yearns to experience life on the other side of the tracks and soon learns the grass is never greener on the other side.

Michelle: Where did you draw inspiration from to write this type of story with a character such as Monique?

Leslie: I created Monique from people that I know and the things I saw people do throughout my lifetime, but many things are from my imagination.

Michelle: Forbidden Fruit 2: The After Taste, sounds like it’s going to be a page turner. Where does this story pick up in relation to the first installment?

Leslie: Part 2 will pick up where we all thought Monique would get her life together, but she surprises us at the end.

Michelle: Will there be a Forbidden Fruit 3? Are you thinking trilogy or will there only be the initial book and the sequel?

Leslie: I am currently working on Part 3.

Michelle: I know that you are looking to become a certified personal trainer. What steps are you taking to bring that dream into fruition?

Leslie: I am currently studying to be a personal trainer and I do attempt to incorporate a healthy lifestyle into my everyday life.

Michelle: Now that you are more health conscious, how is that affecting you in other areas of your life?

Leslie: It is a struggle because I still get those cravings to eat something that I am not supposed to eat.  It is something that I am still working. I am still a work in progress when it comes down to eating healthy.

Michelle: You’re currently working on your third novel, The Real Hood-Wives of B-More. Sounds juicy. Tell us what this book is about.

Leslie: This novel is about four women who are from the same neighborhood but they don’t know each other.  The only thing they have in common is they are willing to do anything and sacrifice anything just to hold on to their men.

Michelle: Which story was easiest for you to write and why?

Leslie: Forbidden Fruit 2 was easier for me to write, because I already knew the characters; and I knew what I wanted them to do and where I wanted them to go with the storyline.

Michelle: Leslie, you’re also tackling a very touchy topic. Let us know about your campaign to Stop Bullying.

Leslie: OutCast Me is a campaign that brings awareness to the bullying in our community, especially our schools.

Michelle: Why did you decide to take a stand against bullying?

Leslie: I took a stand against bullying because I have been on both sides.  I have been bullied and I have been the bully.

Michelle: What else can we expect from Leslie Crawford in the future?

Leslie: You can expect for me to bring more awareness for OutCast Me and for me to bring you more novels. In the future, you can also expect one of my novels to be turned into a movie.

Michelle: If you had it to do all over again. What, if anything, would you change?

Leslie: I would change everything from my first go round.  I did not do my research as I should have when Forbidden Fruit was first released in 2010.  I thought it was as simple as writing a story, sending it to different publishing companies and someone would contact me back.  I soon realized it is a lot of hard work and a lot of research.

Michelle: Please let us know how fans can contact and/or follow you.
