Cash Money Records first came onto the scene nationally in 1997 with the group hot boys. Now more than twenty years after the brothers Bryan “Birdman” Williams and Ronald “Slim” Williams launched their record company they set out on a new mission with publishing urban books.
In NYC this past May I had the pleasure of attending the launch party for Cash Money Content, having the chance to meet the men behind creating this brand. Truthfully I had to sulk in this moment after initially remembering watching cash money artist on TV as a young girl and now being able to witness their new venture was a surreal moment. Nevertheless I placed those feelings aside and embedded myself within the crowd making sure to meet their star writers at Cash Money Content the writing duo Ashley & JaQuavis authors of Murderville. I also had a chance to see an old friend and author, Wahida Clark who is also one of the premiere authors to the label. She recently released, Justify My Thug with them.
The public may judge and say 50 Cent tried this with G Unit Books and that didn’t work or Bad Boy had a brand that didn’t last and so forth. But after witnessing the love and feedback from the attendees at the launch party and being able to take home and review their product, I am very positive this brand can have longevity. Urban Books has evolved and more readers are seeking the content that Cash Money plans to release, I am very anxious to see how this all unfolds.
