Candy Lady by Shan Marie

Candy LadyThou shall kill: in order to live!  Being a drug lords’ woman proves to be no easy task; especially when you’re obligated to take over the business that has been nurtured by your man for countless years.
After the arrest of her lover, Carlos, Kamille ‘Kami’ Lathan, holds down the business until his long awaited return.  Kamille quickly learns that nothing last forever as she witnesses Carlos’ murder in their own home.
Abandoned, now for the second time in her life and feeling indebted to him; she immediately picks up where he left off.  With Carlos’ best friend Joe, by her side, Kamille can’t go wrong.  Always a lover of the streets and respected throughout the city of Atlanta, Kamille finds it easier, by the day, to take another persons’ life in order to maintain the crown that has been passed to her.
Having her best friend, Natasha, around to assist in the day-to-day dealings of the dope world; they form a clique of female hustlers, gangsters, murderers and robbers.  With Kamille holding the lead, the group is unstoppable.
While plotting her revenge on the king pin believed to be responsible for Carlos’ death, Kamille’s life begins to spiral out of control.  Her once desirable life quickly becomes an erupted volcano with never ending duplicity.  Greed sheds light on so-called friends and jealousy of Kamille’s success rears its ugly head; life as she knows it, falls apart.  Who can she trust?  Where can she turn?  Giving up and bailing out is not an option.
For reasons unknown, Kamille finds herself wanted dead by those she once shared close bonds with.  Stemming from an entourage that catered to her every need; she finds herself nearly alone with only a few people in the world that she can completely depend on.  Creating new plans, moving fast, meeting new hustlers and murdering her enemies is the only way for her to maintain her rightfully earned title as the Candy Lady.
Excerpt:
“Poker anyone?”  Kamille opens the table to new comers. Five guests fall in without a second call.  “Five card draw, five hundred dollar minimum.”
The game was going good until this hood, New York nigga named Ed, started talking shit.  The nigga works for the business but he was put on by Carlos. Kamille has never had to deal with him.  Carlos didn’t even know this guy.  He just said that he wanted to help him out.  “Yo’, yo’ yo’ I ain’t no dumb mutha-fucka, shit.  My shit is tight.  Mutha-fuckas try and come on my block and I bust they ass.  No fuckin’ questions asked.”
“Dealer takes two.”  Kamille has her mind on the money and the money on her mind.  The pot is at least three thousand strong and she’s already decided that whatever she wins, she’s giving to Tashjma.  No need to expose her to more than she already knows.  Kamille left her and Dallas with two blunts and some DVDs. They’re probably passed out by now.
“Fuck that, you takin’ two?  You can’t play no poker yo’.  This yo’ fuckin’ house and I’m ‘bout to walk off wit’ it, yo’.”  This dude Ed won’t let up.  Its three thirty in the morning and the crowd is thinning out.  There’s just a few people left; Kamille, Natacha, Bridge, Ronni, Joe, Coupe, Traz and a dude they call Spook.  “See, Los had it good.  He had a bad bitch, house, cars, money, but that nigga didn’t have any sense.”
“You need to slow yo’ role, Ed.”  Natacha tries to put the fire out.
“I ain’t got to slow shit.  You slow the fuck down, bitch.  You know who the fuck I am?”  Kamille cuts her eyes over at Ed, trying to stay focused on the game and ignore the shit he just said about Carlos.  Not mentioning the fact that he called her a bitch, a bad bitch, but a bitch none-the-less.
“I got yo’ bitch and you ain’t shit but a dime nigga.”
              “Yo’, fuck you.”
“No, fuck you.”  Natacha has never been afraid of any man, let alone a loud mouthed son-of-a-bitch like Ed.
“Fuck that.  Like I was saying Los was a stupid nigga.  Laying up in here with a bitch and got his fuckin’ wig split.”  Just as fast as the nigga said the words, Kamille went behind her back, pulling her faithful .45.  One pop to the head and the loud ass northern bread boy hits the floor.  Ed’s mouth and the room fall silent.
“Coupe, Traz, take this shit outside and burn him.  Spook, you got his shop now.”
“Alright, Kami.”  Spook accepts the much-wanted promotion to two shops.

Pic for bk of booksBorn, Shanna Marie Teasley in December of 1980 to Deacon James (deceased) and Deaconess Priscilla Teasley; Shan Marie is a native of Atlanta, Georgia.  Raised in nearby Decatur, Georgia (east of Atlanta), she is the middle child with an older brother and younger sister.  Searching for a place to belong and how she could fit into the equation of life, at the tender age of nine she wrote her first short story.  Always having a vivid imagination – in addition to real life situations and circumstances – she began to put her thoughts and feelings on paper.

Overwhelmed with a need to express herself – also to simply entertain others – Shan Marie continued to explore the newly found love for literature.  She fell head-over-heels in love with Urban Fiction, Thrillers, Suspense and Mystery novels.  By the age of seventeen, she’d completed her very first novel; needless to say, she’s grown emotionally and mentally since then, bringing her writing full circle.

Shan Marie diligently writes with a heart-filled desire to provide heart-wrenching and warming fiction for her readers.  Writing novels that specialize in heroin based plots with the twists and turns of street life is her passion.  Full of love for a plethora of genres, she’s completed eight novels; including an Urban Christian novel and the first of an Urban Murder Mystery series.

Shan Marie is fully aware of the gift and talent that her heavenly Father has bestowed upon her, therefore, she has also began a Spiritual Guidance book that focuses on new and returning Believers of Christ.  It may sound strange and to some, maybe even hypocritical to write Urban Fiction and anything Christian.  However, isn’t that life?  Don’t we all have a past?  Yes we do and Shan Marie chooses to tell both sides of the story; the before and the after.

The joy that the art of writing brings her seems to have no end and pushes her to work hard, network and stay true to who she is as an author.  This is the only way that Shan Marie feels that she can honestly make a name for herself in the literary world.  That being said; she refuse to limit herself to one genre or any particular audience – outside of children, of course.  The stories that she brings to the world are from her personal point of view and are as honest as they come.  Life has truly taught Shan Marie that things don’t always go as you would like or even hope for them to.  This knowledge forces reality with a smidge of fantasy together and make them work as one.

To date, Shan Marie has published two novels (the first two installments of the Candy Lady Saga).  There are several titles in the pipeline for this year which include; Hoasis, Madams and Madams 2, Snapped Chronicles, Housewife or Hoe, Candy Lady 3 – Retribution and more.  Shan Marie is determined to provide, for her readers, Urban Fiction and Street Fiction at Its Best!  There is absolute pleasure that comes from within her, to bring characters to life that have the power to grab readers and pull them into their world.  She is confident that this is a uniqueness that separates her from others and places her on the road to becoming one of the next big things to hit paper.

Get to know Shan:
1. Why did I become a writer?  I bean writing at the age of 8; short stories and poems.  This began out of frustration as a way for me to release my anger.  As I grew older I began to read more adult novels.  I was a about 10 or 11 when I read my first novel, which was Dopefiend by Donald Goins.  My father had the collection and I read every single one before getting caught.  The I started with Eric Jerome Dickey, Sista Souljah, Connie Briscoe etc…  I fell in love with Urban Lit and knew that I could tell a story just as well or even better than some things I was reading; not including the before mentioned authors.  So I wrote my first novel when I was 17 years old and have been pursuing writer as a career for about 12 years.
2. How do I come up with titles, characters and plots?  I can get a title first or a plot; however it comes to me is how I receive it.  Candy Lady, for example; I got the polt first and then the title came about 10 minutes later.
3. Do you outline or freelance?  I’m more of a free lance writer.  I sit down and what comes to my head hits the keyboard.  I usually have one idea in my mind but by the time the book is done it may or may not be what I thought it would be it always turns out great.
4. Why did you start your own publishing company?  Under advice of my consultant and I realized that I’m not going to get the contract that I want from other publishing companies.  I keep 100% control of my babies (my novels) and most of the money that comes in.  The down side is that if you don’t have the money to put into your project then your book won’t move.  There’s way more to this thing than writing; that’s the easy part.
5. What drives me to continue to write?  It’s my passion.  I love being able to be or portray who I want to at any time.  I can say and do things in my writing that I would never do or say; it’s my outlet.  Every since I wrote my first book and people that I knew would be honest with me read it, critiqued it and loved it… nonstop from there.  The love my readers show and are showing right now, pushes me to keep going.
6. Is Candy Lady a series?  Yes.  Candy Lady 2 is out now!  3, 4 and 5 will be out by Summer 2015.  I decided on a 5 book series due to reader demand.
7.  What is coming up for Shan Marie?  Several novels will be released this year, 2014.  They are (in no particular order):  Hoasis, Madams and Madams 2, Snapped Chronicles, Housewife or Hoe?, Poor Lil’ Rich Nigga and more.  I am finished with the first of my murder mystery series, which is Madams and my first Erotica, which is Hoasis.  I will be featured at several book conferences this year and am currently pushing for more public book signings.  I will continue to put out my best and gain more and more readers!
